How to Make Your Home Feel Cosy This Autumn - Naturally

How to Make Your Home Feel Cosy This Autumn - Naturally

There’s something about the first properly cool mornings of autumn that makes us want to retreat indoors, pull on a favourite jumper and make home feel that little bit cosier.

Here in Scotland, autumn can arrive rather quickly. One minute we’re enjoying a surprisingly warm afternoon, and the next we’re reaching for an extra blanket and wondering whether it’s too early to put the heating on!

The good news is that making your home feel cosy for autumn doesn’t need a complete seasonal makeover. A few simple changes can completely transform how a room feels.

Let scent signal the change of season

As the weather cools, many of us naturally move towards warmer spices, rich woods, earthy notes and comforting citrus.

Think sweet orange, ginger, cedarwood, patchouli and vetiver.

Lighting a natural essential oil candle or adding a few wax melts to your burner is an easy way to bring those autumn aromas indoors. Explore warm and spicy autumn fragrances such as Falling Leaves, Gingerbread and Pumpkin Spiced Latte, or head into the woods with earthy, woodland-inspired blends.

Turn down the lights

Few things can ruin a cosy atmosphere quite as quickly as the big overhead light!

As the evenings draw in, use smaller lamps to create softer pools of light around the room. Add the gentle flicker of a candle and suddenly everything feels a little warmer and more inviting.

Throw in a blanket and a cup of tea and you’re pretty much there.

Bring a little of the outdoors in

You don’t need boxes of autumn decorations to celebrate the season.

A few natural touches like seasonal foliage, dried flowers, pinecones, interesting branches, little pumpkins or an autumn wreath can bring the colours and textures of the season indoors.

Natural materials such as wood, wool and linen also work beautifully at this time of year.

Autumn is already putting on quite a show outside. Sometimes we just need to borrow a little of it.

Make time to slow down

Cosiness isn’t only about how your home looks. It’s about how it makes you feel.

Autumn is the perfect excuse to create small evening rituals: light a candle when you finish work, choose a wax melt while you read, enjoy a long bath, roll out your yoga mat or simply put your phone down for half an hour.

It doesn’t need to be elaborate.

Sometimes lighting a favourite fragrance is enough to say: the day is done - now it’s time to relax.

Embrace the cosy season

A softer lamp. A favourite blanket. Something gathered on a woodland walk. A candle flickering in the corner.

Sometimes the little things are all it takes to make home feel wonderfully cosy.

Our Autumn Collection is inspired by those moments, with natural candles and wax melts handcrafted using pure essential oils and plant-based wax.

And now that candle season is well and truly here, you can also mix and match any 3 candles for £60 - our Scottish market offer, now available online too.

So, have you embraced autumn yet, or are you still hanging on to summer? 🍂
